Many people are living with water that penetrates their living quarters every time it rains or if the sprinklers are running outdoors. This can happen in newly constructed homes as well as older more mature dwellings. How you handle the water leakage problem can pose a quandary for many home owners. Lets examine a few of the little known but successful ways of using basement waterproofing system processes.
You see, waterproofing a basement is more of a process rather than a task to go buy a specific product. Sure some products will be recommended to you if you call in certain specialists. A concrete contractor may examine the footers and your basement floor. Why? Because he or she knows how to fix cracks and dents and divits. But what if it is not the right scenario for a concrete specialist…perhaps a second or third opinion is in order.
If you do go with a concrete contractor make sure that they belong to the ASCC. That is the American Society of Concrete Contractors. A governing body for that specialty.
The trained professionals are worth their weight in gold if you’ve got a situation that they are accustomed to fixing. You’ll want to get everything in writing and settle on a price but don’t be to quick to just “get it done”. Seek alternative solutions to the leaky basement.
You could easily ensure that your downspout’s are pointing the water from raining and such away from your property. A neighbor once commented that he’d had it with a wet basement. He had hauled in 30 yards of topsoil to which he and his son in-law Matt worked all day one Saturday to put that new soil up against the house. This solved his water problem for good and it was dirt cheap.
Other friends have had sump pumps installed in their homes that were being build. Sump pumps act as a safety mechanism for when the water surround your basement gets to high. The pump turns on to send the water away from your foundation. Often you’ll see sump pumps used in conjunction with sink tiles. A contractor would install sink tiles around the perimeter of your basement or in some instances around where the leak is. This is not recommended because water has a way of always finding a level area around whichever are you had fixed.
Once our sink tiles had been installed we never have had water coming into the basement again. This was the right basement waterproofing system for us. The trick was finding a contractor with sufficient experience. So, don’t be in a rush to get the problem fixed instead seek to find the right professional for your job. This will save you more money in the long run instead of throwing more money at a problem and not getting any dryness out of your basement.
